Webinar: Together for stronger health systems

Global health initiatives play a crucial role in strengthening health systems, especially in low-income countries. How effectively do three of the largest initiatives - Global Fund, the Global Financing Facility and Gavi - work together and align with country priorities? Following the release of our policy brief, we warmly invite you to join this webinar where panellists will discuss the main findings and recommendations to foster coordination among the 3Gs. Dr Stellah Bosire, independent researcher, will share valuable lessons-learnt from a comparative study conducted in Mozambique, Rwanda, and the DRC. Special guest Susan Sparkes, health financing technical officer at the WHO, will present the WHO’s cross-programmatic efficiency analysis tool. See the full outline and register here ➔

Recommendations for election programmes to benefit global health

With the national elections coming up in the Netherlands in November, we call on political parties to include effective global health solutions in their party programmes. We propose text suggestions for better access to medicines, availability of sufficient health personnel, prevention of pandemics and protection of sexual and reproductive health and rights. Giving youth a seat at the table

Our Make Way youth representative in Zambia, Bertha Chulu, recently attended the UN High-level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development 2023 in New York. This opportunity gave her the unique chance to have a seat at the table – ensuring young people are not only reflected, but also active players in processes and policies when it comes to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Read more about her experience attending the HLPF ➔

Make Way youth delegation: Women Deliver 2023

Make Way youth delegation at Women Deliver 2023

Youth panel members from the Make Way programme attended the Women Deliver 2023 Conference in July in Kigali, Rwanda. The conference brings together grassroots advocates, multilateral governments, the private sector, philanthropies, and youth, to identify and propose solutions to compounding issues impacting girls and women. See what the experiences of the youth panel members are and what they have learned in this video. Want to learn more about the delegation? You can read their introductions here ➔

Wemos tips & picks

We’re delighted to be starting a new section in the newsletter to share our exciting tips and picks on articles, books, films, podcasts and more about global public health!
Our first tip is the book 'This is going to hurt' by Adam Kay (2017, Picador). It is a compilation of Kay's journal entries during his medical training from 2004 to 2010. He highlights political issues in the UK's National Health Service and societal disputes between the general public and undervalued doctors by adding a lot of humour to his personal stories. The book was also adapted into a BBC One series. A must-read ➔
