Making the GFF more effective in
EthiopiaWemos and CORHA published a policy brief with recommendations on how to make the Global Financing Facility (GFF)’s investment in Ethiopia more effective towards a strong health system and health equity. It is the outcome of a country-case study assessing the impacts of the GFF in Ethiopia. By spotlighting these
recommendations, the brief also provides insights for other contexts where the GFF invests in healthcare systems.

There's #NoExcuse not to invest in health systemsIn 2021, around 45,000 women and girls worldwide were killed by their intimate partners or other family members. This means that, on average, more than five women or girls are killed every hour by someone in their own family.
As part of the global campaign 16 Days of Activism against Gender Based Violence, Jennifer Bushee, programme coordinator of the Make Way programme, wrote an article explaining why investing in health systems across the world helps prevent this.

Our side event at the World Local Production ForumTo what extent do satellite production sites of large pharmaceutical companies from the Global North contribute to the independence of the Global South in access to medicines? We convened a side event on this topic at the World Local Production Forum,
which took place in The Hague from 6 to 8 November. According to Wemos, regional production of medicines should not only be in the region, but also by and for the region.

Special mention at Humanitarian Communication Awards 2023Our video ‘Sustainable finance for health systems’ shows key health challenges in Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Zambia and stresses the importance of sustainable financing of health systems. It received a special mention at the
Humanitarian Communication Awards 2023. The jury writes: “Wemos’ video is an animated explainer video, demonstrating their continued successful use of this genre after their Highflyer nomination last year.”
