Election candidates discuss future of Dutch leadership in human rights and global health
How can the Netherlands maintain and strengthen its role as a champion of human rights and global health? This was the main question at an election event in The Hague, hosted by the Dutch Global Health Alliance (of which Wemos is a founder) and the SRHR Platform. Candidate Members of Parliament from seven political parties shared their visions for advancing (sexual) health and rights worldwide. The dynamic discussions showed there is momentum for these pressing topics.

We encourage civil society organizations, youth-led organizations, and community groups to review it and contribute their insights. Flagging tax justice at the Global Health Hub annual event
"Tax justice is a prerequisite to improve global health outcomes." This was our statement during a panel discussion at the annual event of the Global Health Hub. The UN Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation, that is currently being negotiated, can plug loopholes in the global tax system and contribute to a fair allocation of taxing rights between countries. This would significantly help low-income countries to domestically raise the resources they need to realize (global) health goals. Read more ➔ |

Fair drug prices key topic during debate with Minister of Health
In a debate with the Dutch Minister of Health, Jan Anthonie Bruijn, on October 1, members of the House of Representatives strongly raised the problem of the high prices of new medicines. Both right-wing and left-wing parties agreed that these high prices are unsustainable for the affordability and accessibility of the Dutch healthcare system. The minister promised to investigate the application of a calculation model for fairer prices, the so-called cost-plus-plus model. Read more about it in our LinkedIn post. |

It Was Vulgar and It Was Beautiful (2022) by Jack Lowery highlights the role of art in advancing human rights. It tells the story of art collective 'Gran Fury', which used bold visuals to demand action during the AIDS crisis. As anti-LGBTQIA+ policies and attacks on diversity surge, the book serves as both a historical record and a call to action, reminding us that creativity and collective effort are powerful tools for a more just and inclusive society.
